Secure IMAP

If you do not want to use Outlook 2007 or Outlook Web Access, but would like to use an IMAP client to send and receive email, you can use the following settings.  However, please note that IMAP does not support all Exchange features and functionality.

You must first make certain to have created a Mailbox.  Please note that it may take 10-15 minutes for a new mailbox to become active, so please wait before moving to Step 2.

Launch Outlook 2007.

Click Tools > Account Settings.

Click New in the Email tab.

Check Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click Next.

Select Internet E-mail.

Enter the following settings:

Account Type: IMAP

Incoming mail server: imap2.exchangecentral.net

Outgoing mail server: smtp2.exchangecentral.net

User name: user@domain.com

Password: <user defined>

Click More Settings.

Click the Outgoing Server tab.

Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.

Click the Advanced tab.

Enter the following settings:

Incoming server (IMAP): 993

Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL

Outgoing server (SMTP): 587

Use the following type of encrypted connection: TLS

Click OK, and then Finish.

 

Also keep in mind that you can download a free copy of Outlook 2007 with each Exchange mailbox.
