In Exchange, you can manage various aspects of public folders. The Public Folders Administration screen allows you to:
- see how much disk space you are using for public folders
- purchase more space
- Enable/Disable Administrator status for a particular mailbox. (Enabling a user as an Administrator allows them to create/manage public folders through Outlook or Outlook Web Access.)
|
Anyone who has an exchange mailbox should be able to access Public folders, but Administrator status is required in order to create and manage Public folders. |
|
The default setting for newly-created Exchange mailboxes is "Standard User" -- so in order to use public folders, at least one mailbox must be enabled as an Administrator. |
To manage public folders in Exchange:
1 |
In MS Exchange, click the Public Folders link. The Public Folder Administration screen appears. See the Public Folder Space Summary area to see how much space you are using or to purchase additional storage space. |
2 |
To enable Administrator Status for a particular mailbox, click on the drop-down menu at the right of the mailbox and select the Administrator option. Or you can switch someone from Administrator to Standard User, which will disable Administrator status. You can also enable or disable all mailboxes at the same time by selecting the Access Level drop-down menu at the top.

When you are done adjusting administrator status, click theUpdate button to commit changes.
